For the 50th National Nutrition Month, Center for Discovery (CFD) dietary leadership will discuss the “Fuel for the Future” in eating disorder treatment that will support patients in finding sustainable recovery. Learning Objectives
- Explain how CFD utilizes trauma-informed nutrition support to treat eating disorders within the intersections of trauma and mood disorders. Participants will increase their understanding of the connection between trauma, gastrointestinal health, and eating disorder symptoms through polyvagal theory, somatic experiencing, and exposure prevention and response therapies.
- Identify 3 limitations of historical and traditional nutrition practices for eating disorder care. Participants will learn how CFD’s nutrition model is utilizing weight inclusive practices, gender affirming interventions, and community-informed cycle menus and assessment tools to increase treatment accessibility.
- Identify 3 dietary interventions that support a patient establishing sustainable nourishment practices through trauma-informed collaboration with a dietitian. Participants will learn how to interweave dialectical behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy within meal support therapies that increase patients’ sense of agency and choice.
